This is a bit of a special one – it isn’t very often that Josh Brent aka Schatrax comes out of retirement these days or gives permission for anyone to re-release his back catalogue of pretty stunning, classic deep house but, down to a devoted passion for the track and a kind of numbing persistence from Fear of Flying, Josh relented and not only granted permission but also went back into the studio for a nick and a tuck on his ‘2010 Edit’. Justin Drake provides the modern house sheen on the flip. ‘Champagne Dancer’ is a track that’s sat in our record boxes for many a year now, often overlooked for better known Schatrax fare, this track featured on the triple vinyl ‘Greatest Schats’ compilation but was sorely missing from the CD release. Simplicity is the absolute key here – indeed, there’s not much more than a kick drum, a bassline and a melancholic piano riff, but we dearly love it so!
