Julien Veniel, better known as Parisian producer D'Julz, has been a busy man of late. Since he first appeared on our radar courtesy of tech-house smash 'Just so you Know', we've seen a slew of impressive, predominantly tech house releases arrive from a man who nowadays, calls himself resident at one of Paris' oldest clubbing institutions, the Rex.
Since his last release, the impressive 'Fleurette' EP on Parisian imprint Circus Company, he's been mainly concentrating on remix work for the likes of Matthew Dear and Slam, whereby he lent his trademark tech house sound to the latter's classic 'Positive Education.'
'Rotondo' sees D'Julz return to Circus Company and is further evidence of this mans production qualities. The 3 track EP opens with the title track. 'Rotondo' continues electronic musics latest penchant for dark grooves. Atmospheric and lively throughout as a result of the snapping hi-hats and constant snares, there's a hint of Dubfire's 'Rabid' about this track. 'Rotondo' straddles the boundaries between tech house and techno in a manner which will appeal to D'Julz's fellow countrymen and fellow techno purveyors such as Paul Ritch.
'On the Road' is next up. Maintaining a similar vibe to 'Rotondo', but with a housier edge, this is house music laced with attitude and flair, complimented by a host of deep percussive pads and an analogue sounding bass line.
'Ideas are Fishes' completes the package. The vocal here adds a sensual tone to proceedings before the track pauses and eventually bumps to a click heavy 8-bit sounding crescendo.
