Ian Straker (Strakes) is the man behind Kahua Music – one of the UKs leading promotions and publishing companies for underground house music. He also co-owns Lost My Dog Records alongside Pete Dafeet and Najan Ward. Ian has over 10 years experience in the music industry which began while at University where we got the bug as a DJ, event organiser/promoter and as 'Head of Dance Music' at LCR Radio. It was while at University that Kahua was born, initially as a club night. After graduating Ian and Daniel Sudron set up Kahua Music as a record store based in the North-East of England. Kahua's promotion and publishing sections were formed in late 2007/early 2008 offering specialist services to record labels and artists working within the house genre.
Lost My Dog Records was established in early 2005 and has quickly established itself as, in the words of iDJ Magazine, “one of the most impressive deep house labels to emerge in the UK recently” with accolades raining in from all manner of leading worldwide DJs including Groove Armada, Nic Fanciulli, Jimpster, Phil Weeks and Inland Knights.
As a DJ, Ian has played all over the UK alongside the likes of Norman Jay, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Diz, Greenskeepers and Rob Mello at nights including Stylus, Clubclass, CityFly and at the legendary Bomb nightclub in Nottingham. He has also won the coveted ‘Raw Talent’ competition in iDJ magazine, with a glowing review stating, “Strakes’ mix covers everything from Chi-town bleepery to Midlands deepery, and from big vocals to West Coast laziness…move over deep house b**tards, there’s a new kid in town”.Ian has over 10 years experience in the music industry which began while at University where we got the bug as a DJ, event organiser/promoter and as 'Head of Dance Music' at LCR Radio.
